Our trip that we started last month ended in September. We were gone for 14 days and there is no one else I’d rather be cooped up in a camper and pickup driving over 3000 miles than my family.
Ryan met a man named Bernie that camped next door. One evening we were sitting around the campfire just talking and relaxing. Ryan had his guitar out and was strumming a song or two. Bernie, all of a sudden, appeared around the corner, his guitar in hand, and ask if someone was playing a mandolin. Ryan told him no it was a guitar, but the song was Remember When by Alan Jackson so it sounded a lot like a mandolin. He ask if he could join us and we told him of course! He sat down and we ended up visiting with him for an hour. He and his wife were on vacation from Key West (can you imagine needing a vacation from Key West...I can’t) and he used to play in his younger days in a band. They were called Oklahoma Dan and he played with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, George Jones, Ricky Skaggs and several others. Ryan and Bernie hit it off! You never know who you’ll meet in life, but its really neat when you meet someone who wants to sit down with your 9 year old, treat him like a talented musician, and teach him new things. It was really neat and I’m thankful for Bernie and the time he spent with Ryan.Utah is absolutely beautiful! The rock formations were something we’ve never seen any other place. Our God made this world so different and beautiful and it’s a dream to get to see it with Tye and the kids.
I mean LOOK how neat that looks!
Rusty boy loved all the hiking and picnicking. He especially loved when someone didn’t eat all their sandwich and would sneak him a piece of turkey.
Tye and I enjoying our coffee. This was the morning we waited for HOURS for our camper to be fixed. When life gives you lemons, make COFFEE!!
Marshall Dillion did it again! My boys love to watch Gunsmoke!
Our campfire entertainer!
Ayden is such a good sister. Sydney was tired and wanted Ayden to carry her. Of course Ayden said yes. I love their relationship.
This lake was made by a volcano and there were TONS of lava rocks everywhere. We all thought this was really cool!
Bryce Canyon National Park is one of my all time favorite places. The views and sights were absolutely breath taking!
Bernie and Ryan playing together. They played together every night, but one after the day they met.
This was a really cool tunnel that we saw on the way to see the Valley of Fire.
We drove for a bit to hike this particular trail in Bryce Canyon National Park. Little did we know pets weren’t allowed on the trails. I volunteered to stay back at the pickup while Tye and the kids hiked and saw a little waterfall. We were both disappointed, but Rusty was really sad. He laid his little head on the window and didn’t stop looking in the direction of the kids until he heard their little voices headed back. A dogs love is so loyal. If people treated each other like dogs treat their humans our world would be such a brighter place!
Sydney played with her Peppa Pig toys one morning. She got all of them set up and then said, “Momma, it’s just like you and us at school.”
Blow outs are no FUN. I’m thankful I’ve got a guy that can change one in 10 minutes flat! I don’t really help, but always stand there for moral support. Hahaha
Zion National Park is beautiful too! When we told the kids we were headed to Zion Myles said, “We are going to Heaven?” The only time he’s ever heard that word is in the Bible. He later said that he thinks maybe the people that named it Zion National Park thought it was as beautiful as Heaven. Heaven on Earth! We hiked a few trails and then drove through the longest tunnel ever. This tunnel was cut through solid rock on the side of a mountain and it was 1.2 miles long. We drove through it 3 times because it was so neat!
Buffalo just hanging out on the side of the road.
Tailgate picnics are the best!
Why are boys always trying to make their mothers scared?
On the way home we got to see Arches National Park too. I highly recommend a trip to Utah if you’ve never been!
Every year the kids plant a small patch of cotton and take care of it. Ryan’s cotton was opened and he was ready to harvest it. He “ginned” it himself and set the seeds aside to plant again next year. I can’t imagine having to do it all by hand. I’m thankful for machinery that does it much faster and more efficiently than way back when!
We started school on the second half of our vacation. Every morning before we set out for our adventure we would sit at the picnic table or at the table in the camper if it was raining and work. We took health, science, Spanish, and reading along with us. When we got home our “real” school days started. This year has been a breeze so far. Everyone is doing well and progressing! Thankful I get to spend my days doing what I love to the people I love!
A little Lego building is always going on at our house. Myles built my favorite dinosaur, a Triceratops!
The boys spent the night at Mim and Grandaddy’s house and Tye had a WRYC board meeting. The girls and I used this as the perfect opportunity for a little girl time. Tea party, noodles, strawberries, bananas and Nutella~we had a blast!! I’m so thankful for my girls. I’m happy that they get to be my daughters now and someday they’ll get to be my friends.
My sissy!
Sydney is doing awesome with her reading! I’m so proud of her!
Sassy and SWEET!
We’ve been hoeing every morning and doing school in the afternoons. Even when I’m hoeing, I’m thankful I get to do it with them.
Tye told me yesterday that he can hoe so much faster without the kids. He’s thankful for their help, but especially with the little ones it just takes time. He understands that it’s important for them to know how to work and someday the hours of explaining and guiding will pay off! Tye said one day we can drop them off in the field and then we can just go around on the four wheeler burning all the weeds they’ve hoed! HA! That’ll be a day of rejoicing!
Myles has grown so much this year. He doesn’t jump down and pet the dog after every paper and ...WHAT do you know....he gets done a lot faster!
Sydney Marr lost another tooth! It’s her second one to lose and I love the little sound her voice makes without it.
Sydney got to go with Kam Kam to get a pedicure and manicure this month. What special treatment!
This little trooper on the miles and miles of road we traveled. Can you tell we love him just a little bit?
I’m a hard workin’ man!
Farmer Bob and his right hand lady...Farmer Betty.
She’s six people...SIX years old! September 27, we celebrate little Syd coming into the world. She completed our family and has brought us such joy every single day. She’s a great little sister and always willing to play whatever her brothers throw her way. She’ll dress up and catch frogs on the same afternoon! She’s as smart as a whip and isn’t afraid to give you her opinions. She’s sweet and caring and has a heart for most everything. She’s cried at more movies than me and is always up for baking and helping me cook. She loves a good bubble bath and an afternoon of painting nails or coloring. She’s my baby and will always have such a special place in my heart.
On the bright side of things, there is sometimes a “not so” bright side. It’s easy to always write about the “good” things or the joyful things that have happened in a month. I’m an optimist by nature so those are the things that stick out in my mind. Plus, lets face it...when your child is throwing a fit or showing you a side of themselves that isn’t easy we don’t pick up our camera and snap a picture. Maybe I’ll try that sometime and see if it diffuses the situation. Haha
Anyway, we say sorry A LOT at our house. We practice it on a daily basis as a matter of fact. We are all trying to be the best version of ourselves, but God gave us emotions that are hard too. Tye and I are trying to teach our kids, while working through our own battles, that even in the times you’re mad, angry or think things didn’t go your way you’ve got to remember to be angry, but sin not. Jesus was angry, but he didn’t sin. He’s our example and though we could never be just like him, we strive every single day to try.
Myles has struggled with anger and reacting to situations without thinking how it could hurt the person he’s angry at. Ryan struggles with not knowing when you stop talking or arguing. Ayden struggles with her attitude and Sydney struggles with saying mean things, not realizing later that she didn’t really mean it, but by then it’s too late. Tye and I have multiple battles we fight everyday and honestly mine are just too long to name. It’s something that we talk about as family, and on our own frequently. Life is hard sometimes. Days are long, moments are rough, but I’m reminded of God’s faithfulness every time I look around.
Sorry notes are the best and sometimes the only way to communicate your feelings. I’ll always take a sorry note...and on occasion I’ll write my own.
I’m convinced these two can do anything in this world they set their minds too!
The best girls night is always fun when it’s spent in your jammies!
Childhood is meant for swinging your favorite stuffed animal in the swings.
School days, school days, good ole’ golden rule days!
Ayden is a SIXTH grader...WHAT?!
She’s beautiful on the inside and out and is already rocking her middle school years!
Ryan is a fourth grader this year. He always says school is easy. He’s a natural and is serious about getting his work done! He’s grown so much in his maturity and he makes me so very proud.
Myles is a second grader this year. He’s awesome and fun and makes me laugh all the time. He doesn’t understand why he needs to learn how to spell. After all, he talks “kinda good and that’s what people will hear anyway when they see him.” He brings light and life into our school room and is a joy to teach!
Sydney is in KINDERGARTEN, again. Haha! She technically did Kindergarten last year. She is super smart and I know it’s because she hangs out with “big” kids all day. She’s been in our school room since we was born and has always just joined right in to what ever we are doing. We didn’t feel like skipping her to first grade was the right decision at this time so I found an advanced Kinder curriculum and she’s boppin’ right through!
The month of September was a good one for us. I’m excited for fall and all the holiday stuff that goes along with it. Tye will start harvesting in a few weeks and I’m excited for him. I know it’s the time of year he gets to reap what he’s sowed. It’s important for me to have a good attitude so that’s my goal for the next few months. Put a smile on my face, even when I really, really don’t wanna!
